There is a place near Mexico City, called Amatlan de Quetzalcoatl. it is a small town surrounded by mountains. This tiny town, almost forgotten in time is of much relevance for Archaeology, as it is the birth place of God Quetzalcoatl, which is basically the most important God in Mexican Culture. This place is hidden and also well protected by the natives, as it has been the place of many interesting and mysterious findings.
Amatlan is the resting place of famous American Archaeologist Carmen Cook, she devoted her life to explore Mexican culture and Amatlan became her second home. She explored most of the archaeology sites found in the area and discovered that this magic town was the birth place of God Quetzalcoatl. Cook also found and wrote about the mysteries attached to to this site. There is one in particular that has always called my attention, and so I went in search for the Strange Window.
As you arrive to this small town, you realise how time stopped many years ago, but there is also a special magic to it, it gives you the feeling of entering a sacred place, your voice immediately feels shy, as you are surrounded by singing nature and whispering wind. But there is one element that stands out and it can be visible from any spot you stand; Its called Cerro la Ventana, or Window Hill, and there is a real window on top of this hill, glass and everything.
Window Hill is peculiar, however it hides a greater mystery than just having a window on top. It is said small creatures live inside the hill, and the window is some kind of portal to the unknown, in town they call it a portal for foreigners, but I learned that they don't mean tourist, they call foreigners to "aliens", and they call it Window to the Sky. The small creatures that live inside the hill are supposed to be some sort of midgets or elves and they can show you the way to the "nature of things". Let me explain further.
According to legend Amatlan is the birthplace of Quetzalcoatl, and the place where he underwent his inner transformation, where he began his journey to fully realize his potential as a great teacher and the he place where he arrived to earth, the hill welcomed and gave him the power to create one of the most important civilisations of the entire American Continent, the Aztec Civilisation. Natives from all over the country (Mexico, but also consider that most of the southern US states belonged to Mexico, so natives from US too) moved to the center of the country followed by Quetzalcoatl predictions. "They should establish only if they found a golden eagle perched on a prickly pear cactus devouring a snake". (Now you know the reason for Mexican flag coat of arms), making Amatlan a sacred place where knowledge evolved and the Great Aztec culture was born.
Carmen Cook said, that according to legend, only a few people can enter the hill, but you have to try only on New Years Eve, if you do get in and make it out again, you will come with the secret of creation. but as of today, a few have managed to get in, but no one has ever managed to come out. There is also one important fact to take into consideration, there are some entrances to the Hill, it is a set of labyrinth caves, so in order to enter you must have some speleology training and proper equipment.
Once you get close to the Hill you will feel the power flowing, there is something unexplainable going on, I felt a big hole in my stomach, I felt nervous, a kind of nervous I have never experienced before. The weather during December is really cold, and the wind brushes your face with bitter strength, but the air feels so pure in your lungs it gives you an amazing feeling of being awake or alive. It is said, that in this place you can receive the ancient energy and gather the resources to step out on your journey to become all we can be, and believe me, you feel different in so many ways.
