The Shadow on the Wall
We used to live in a three story house. It had two living rooms, one on the first floor and one on the second. We would usually hang on the second floor living room, as it was the one with the big TV. This was the early 90´s. The living room on the first floor was more of a formal space. We would hang there sometimes as there was a good sound system my father purchased, so this was the place to party!.
One evening my older sister and I, were hanging in the formal living room, planing for our next Halloween party. (we loved Halloween Parties). All of a sudden, she stops talking and just stares to the wall and looks at me, not scared, but just puzzled. She then points at the wall and says "that's a weird shadow, it looks.... it looks like a person".
I immediately turned to look at where she is pointing. It actually looks like a human shadow, you could see the shape of the head and shoulders. and as you looked down it seemed as if it faded, melting into the dark hardwood floor. We were really puzzled, as we had never noticed this shadow, and it was actually quite large, like a real size human shape.
Our first thought was of doubt, we were really skeptic and thought of it as an illusion. We started moving things around, lamps, paintings, couch, everything just to figure out what this shadow was. We were not able to figure it out. We went to bed.
The next day, the shadow was still there, and the day after and the day after. We just stopped searching for what was making the shadow, and we stopped paying attention. A couple of weeks later there were some strange noises on the roof, like the sound you get when dragging something heavy, this was strange, we had never heard something like this before. Nothing was there. So, a lot of strange things were going on, lots of noises that we were not able to figure out, nothing really menacing, but we always felt that there was someone there.
Doors would open on their own and close, some things were constantly out of place, or just missing. The radio on the formal living room would start playing on its own, even if you were not in the room. Activity increased almos o a daily basis, and it was getting worse every week. At this point we decided that maybe it was time to talk about it as a family.
We all noticed some kind unusual activity, but for some reason, Mom never said a thing, until we mentioned it. But she dismissed our concerns, saying we were probably imagining things.
One Sunday evening, my Mom came rushing through the stairs holding a large knife, me and my sisters were watching TV and we all went cold as we saw the image of my Mom with that huge knife standing by the stairs. Her face was just filled with fear and then she said
-"someone is in the house, I saw someone going through the service staircase, I want you to go across to the neighbors house and stay there, call the police"
We were all frozen with fear. We finally ran to the front door and out to the neighbors house. We called the police and waited until they got there, it took around 20 minutes, it felt like hours. When they finally arrived, they searched the house, twice. They found nothing, everything was there, nothing was taken. They assumed that this person may have heard Mom's command and us leaving to call the police and ran, but it was strange that non of the doors were forced open, not a broken window, no prints or hints of a stranger, and the patio door was locked, as was the front door when we left the house.
We went home, made sure to lock everything. Nothing was missing or misplaced. So we had "the talk". Something was wrong in the house, there were a lot of things going on, and paranormal was one option, we talked all night of the strange things happening. We don't believe in paranormal, we don't want to believe in the paranormal. I guess, after a few months we just got used to the "new noises" of our house, after all nothing bad had happened really.
A few months went by and we would have some activity at times, and none at others, and after a couple of years, all the activity and noises stopped. The strange part is, that the shadow on the wall also disappeared, we never knew when, we just realized it one day. We usually don't talk about it, Mom always says this was a home invasion, I still have my doubts.
