LAKE RONKONKOMA

Lake Ronkonkoma is famous for the legend of the "Lady of the Lake". It is said that back in Colonial Times,  a Native American Lady drowned in Lake Ronkonkoma and now hunts the place, luring young men to drown with her. Its also said that the Lake has no bottom, but rather is a gateway to hell.
Weather you believe in legends or not, there is something undeniable; This place has a very creepy vibe.
I heard the legend several years ago, and had never visited the place. To be honest, I had forgotten all about this legend and this place.
A few months ago, I got an invite from a friend to visit her new house at Lake Ronkonkoma and I accepted immediately, after all this was my chance to tour Lake Ronkonkoma and learn more about the "Lady of the Lake", and I was so happy for my friend, I know she had been searching an affordable place in New York, as she works as a freelance designer, but did not want to live in Manhattan or Brooklin, she likes her peace and quite time.
We got there around 5 pm on a Tuesday. It was a good summer day and it took us just about 3 hours to get there from Manhattan. There were four of us, my friend Lia (the owner), my friend Dana and her boyfriend Russell and Me. Space was no problem, as the house has 4 large bedrooms and 4 bathrooms and it has an amazing view to the lake.
We spent the first night cleaning around, we went shopping to get groceries and cooked dinner. We woke up early the next morning as we planned to spend the day down the lake and touring the site. We got there and took advantage of the great weather and water. We were talking about how wonderful the place is and then Russell asked Lia if it was hard to get the house and if the area is expensive. Lia mentioned that she actually got the house at an amazing price, as it on foreclosure; she also said that there were a lot of homes for sale at great prices because there were a lot of foreclosures and Auction properties. Russell's eyes twinkled.
We went to a nearby Pub to get a beer and something to eat. We went back home around 6 and we all took a bath and fixed dinner (basically snacks) to watch a movie. Dana came rushing to the living room and said she heard a scream right outside her bedroom window, she said it was too dark to see anything, she said she just saw something moving like 8 feet from her window. We went outside and saw or heard nothing. We got in and joked a little bit about the legend, we were actually trying to freak out Dana.

That night Dana had almost no sleep, and she actually had no sleep at all for the next 3 days, until we left from Lake Ronkonkoma. She said that she dreamed about a woman sitting on the floor trying to take something off her shoe in a hurry. Dana felt as if she were in trouble and were trying to run away from something or someone, but her shoe got tangled or stuck, and that is why she was sitting on the floor trying to free herself. Dana could feel her anguish. She would always wake up there, never knowing what happened to the woman, if she was able to free herself and run, or what was chasing her.
Our trip ended, I must say nothing interesting happened while we were there and at the end of the trip we were a little annoyed by Dana's grumpiness, I understand she had no sleep at all, and had a terrible time during our trip, but I felt she was not trying at all.
We went back home on Sunday, and didn't talk for maybe a week or two. We did not fight or anything, is just one of those trips where you end up a little fed up from the company so it was best to take some distance.
We met for drinks to celebrate our friend Fernando's birthday. Russell and Dana were there, so was Lia and myself, of course Fernando and a couple of people more. We talked all night and had a great time. Just before we left, Russell said that Dana was still having the nightmare, so they researched a little bit about Lake Ronkonkoma and found out that aside from all the drownings (Yes, unfortunately there has been several drownings in the lake, mostly male) They found a case of a young lady who disappeared near Lia's house. Her body was never found, and they believe she was abducted. However some of the neighbours claim they hear screams and whispers, some even heard footsteps outside their properties.
Whether this claims are true or not, whatever happens in this place, it leaves a mark, an invisible one. It has a sad vibe and sometimes negative. Probably the reason why most of the houses around the Lake are up for Auction and Foreclosure.
